About
Saveur Savon
Hi, my name is Emma and I am the owner of Saveur Savon! I am a French girl currently living in Coventry, UK and I make handmade, vegan and eco-friendly soaps using the ancestral cold process technique with a modern touch of delicious fragrances and vibrant colours.
I started Saveur Savon in October 2019 and my initial plan was to sell at markets all over the UK so people can get the full experience of my soaps. Unfortunately life decided otherwise and lockdown happened... So I started growing my business online and traded on Etsy for about a year, before creating my own website during the third lockdown.
I am the only person running this small business which means I am the one creating the soaps from design to labels, creating content for social media, filming/editing videos, preparing/shipping orders, taking care of the website and providing customer service.
My time is divided in three different activities : when I am not in my soap workshop, you can find me working part time in a shop in Coventry city centre. On my days off, I also work as a freelance digital marketing consultant for small business and independent workers.
The journey to Saveur Savon
Everything started as a teenager, back in 2012, after experiencing very bad skin problems. Back then, I started reading about industrial cosmetics and their composition and realised how bad they were, not only for my body but also for the environment. I lowered my consumption of cosmetics products and researched better alternatives to use instead. I turned to more minimalist and natural ingredients, such as clays, plants extract, vegetable oils, floral waters, essential oils, etc. Using those for a few years, my skin problems totally disappeared and my hairs started to grow long and healthy.
I then decided I wanted to go one step further and try to make my own cosmetics, creating my own solid shampoo, creams, face mask, body scrubs, conditioner, ...etc, and I never bought any cosmetics from supermarkets ever again.
In 2017, I started The DIY Workshop, to share all the things I learnt during this journey. I was teaching about greenwashing, how to read product's label, the benefits of natural ingredients and how to use them to create a new routine with hand-made products, more respectful for their body and the environment.
Two years ago, I took the plunge and entered in the vast world of soap making. And after another long period of learning, reading, researching, and testing, I created Saveur Savon!
